Turn 2024 — call for proposals - NOW CLOSED

TURN PRIZE returns in 2024

We are delighted to announce that a commission of £4000 will be available to one artist/company selected from Turn 2024.

The Turn Prize will be selected from the works presented in Turn 2024, by a panel representing hÅb, Company Chameleon + Project Auske and Dance Consortia NW. It will be for new work, or development of work currently at R&D stage, by North West based dancemaker(s) where the panel recognises clear potential for onward development and distribution.
Supported by Dance Consortia North West using public funds from Arts Council England and supported by Company Chameleon and hÅb.

Turn, Greater Manchester's open call dance platform is back in a new home — Company Chameleon Studios — and this time things will be a little different. We plan to be working in just the one studio, and Turn 2024 will take place on Friday 22 March… and Friday 15 March in case of extra demand.

North West* dancers and dance-makers (aged 18+) are invited to submit proposals of short pieces of work, works-in-progress or extracts of longer works for inclusion in this annual event. To get a feel for it, have a look at the 2023 programme + gallery.

Proposal Deadline: Friday 2 February 2024, 5pm.

Turn 2024:
An open submission dance platform for North West* dancers and dance-makers on Fri 22 March, and possibly Fri 15 March:
● short finished pieces of work;
● excerpts or extracts of longer works;
● works-in-progress;
Plus an artist day on Sat 23 March.

Turn in 2024 will include:
one or two evenings of public performances on Fri 22 March, and Fri 15 March if demand permits;
followed by an artist day incorporating a workshop or masterclasses and feedback sessions on Sat 23 March from 2pm.

Proposals should be for pieces with some live presence, 20 minutes maximum for show-type work, technically simple, adaptable to quick turnarounds, and suitable for showing alongside other pieces.
We are looking for dance in any form which uses the artists' creativity, has strong concept, original choreography, and professional aspiration.
We welcome work which explores forms beyond Contemporary — including radical re-imaginings of classical non-western and urban formsand we are particularly interested in contemporary work which explores the boundaries between dance and Live Art.
Priorities are for high quality and exciting dance-based work by North West* artists, which has not been seen in Greater Manchester before.

Turn aims to be:
● a public micro-festival and open submission platform;
● an opportunity for artists to meet, show, and peer-review work;
● an artist networking event;
● and is open to North West England* dancers and dance-makers, aged 18+

3. Include a short (compulsory) video submission - upload to your own YouTube/Vimeo or similar page and include the link in the proposal form.

Alternatively send via https://www.wetransfer.com (or similar) to turn@habarts.org or send dvd to hÅb, c/o Z-arts, 335 Stretford Road, Manchester, M15 5ZA.

Video should be short (10 mins) and does not have to be high quality.  It can be from camcorder, digital camera or mobile phone.  Rehearsal footage, a video sketch of ideas or a video proposal with clips of previous work are all good ways of showing us your style and what you are proposing.

Closing Deadline 5pm Friday 18 January 2013.

Notes:

The proposal form must be completed at one sitting (you can't save and return to it later) so please copy and paste the longer elements from another document.

Turn cannot offer fees or expenses.

There will be a technical meeting for all selected artists on Saturday 6 April 2013.
